Abstract
The crystal structure of 3-Cyano-N-methylpyridinium bromide, the isostructural bromide salt, was described. It was found that 3-Cyano-N-methylpyridinium bromide compound has crystallographic mirror symmetry. It was observed that the compound forms a layered solid with each cation forming three strong and one weaker C-H···Br hydrogen bonds within the layer. Consistent with the presence of moderately strong intermolecular interactions, the compound was found to decompose with charring at 493 K.
