title = "A novel chitosan dressing. Hemostatic efficacy in acute swine injury models: Splenic stripping compared to carotid laceration",
abstract = "Hemostatic efficacy of different forms of chitosan dressing in acute swine injury models were analyzed. Chitosan material forms consisted of powders, gels films and sponges were initially tested in a swine spleen laceration model where 30 second applications with digital pressure were used, followed by a 2 minutes period of observation for bleeding. The best performing chitosan form were compared against Gelfoam{\texttrademark}+thrombin in an anti-coagulated swine spleen capsular stripping and carotid laceration model. It was observed that in the laceration model, chitosan as a powder, film and gel had no better efficacy than the negative control, whereas the sponge form showed equivalent performance to Gelfoam{\texttrademark}+thrombin.",
