N2 - Although many nursing programs are turning away qualified applicants, many are concerned with educating a diverse student population, as well as addressing community workforce needs. Many potential students who express an interest in a nursing career may be underprepared in math and science to enter a rigorous nursing program. This article describes the efforts of faculty at Kaua'i Community College to increase the successful entry of students underqualified in math into the nursing program through an organized pathway. Various learning strategies are presented, as well as lessons learned.
