Abstract

Anabolism is a metabolic state of protein synthesis. In the immediate postprandial period, carbohydrates are the preferred source of energy. After 12-15 hours of fasting, energy is derived from the breakdown of fat and protein stores. In order to maintain an anabolic state, energy sources must be supplied, which includes the provision of essential amino acids.
