Abstract

Anywhere from one million to two million people are bitten by animals each year. Most often, the medical concerns are related to infection, which are complicated by the wide range of animals that bite man. The author discusses the microbiology and clinical manifestations of bites in children, presents guidelines for management, and discusses the special considerations of rabies and tetanus.
