Biodegradation-resist polyurethane elastomers: Advances in understanding domain structure by fourier transform infrared spectroscopy

Abstract

The preparation of uniform thin films of polyurethane and the changes in the carbonyl and amine spectral envelopes were discussed. The MDI-BDO hard segment of the polyurethanes was found to be maintained at a weight fraction of 40%. At least two sets of hydrogen bonding changes occurred as the weight fraction of polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) macrodiol was increased. Analysis shows that the changes reflect increased ordering in the inter-domain and hard segment domains with increased fraction of α, ωPDMS.
