Abstract

The biology and treatment of esophageal cancer are being redefined both in the laboratory and in the clinic. This article high- lights some of the pertinent issues with regard to the biology of squamous cell cancer of the esophagus (ESCCA), including environmental factors, biologic observations, and the role of chemotherapy and radiation therapy in the management of esophageal cancer.
