Abstract
The development of Coherent anti-Stokes Raman scattering (CARS), imaging technique, for studying lipids in living cell is discussed. The study reveals that CARS microscopy is a nonlinear imaging techniques that produces images of chemical species based on their vibrational signatures. Among the chemical species that it has revealed in living cells, lipids provide the best contrast, offering great potential to augment biomedical research in lipid-related diseases such as obesity and atherosclerosis. It is observed that with the CARS microscopy, monitoring of changes in lipid droplets is possible.
