Abstract

Pulmonary arteriovenous malformations (PAVMs) are abnormal vascular connections between pulmonary arteries and veins that are a major cause of morbidity and mortality in patients with Hereditary Hemorrhagic Telangiectasia (HHT). Since its inception over 40 years ago, embolization has replaced surgical resection as the standard therapy for PAVMs. This chapter outlines the basic diagnostic approach to HHT and PAVMs and the technical considerations of PAVM embolotherapy.
