Abstract

Trauma remains a burdensome and devastating disease process accounting for significant morbidity and disability. Injury prevention and trauma systems contribute to reduction in mortality and morbidity through organization and effective echelons of care. A system-based approach to the assessment and management of patients who are injured is important in ensuring that life-threatening injuries are rapidly identified and managed appropriately.
