note = "Funding Information: On June 4-6, 1995, a workshop on heritable disorders of connective tissue was held at the National Institutes of Health. The funding organizations within NIH were the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases, the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, and the Office of Rare Disease Research. The workshop was cosponsored by the Coalition for Heritable Disorders of Connective Tissue. This workshop was a follow-up to a previous workshop held in April, 1990. The earlier workshop was summarized by Byers, Pyeritz and Uitto (Matrix 12: 333-342, 1992). Twenty-seven invited presenters 1 and several observers interacted in round-table discussions leading to this summary article. The current authors were the workshop organizers; however, all participants made important contributions to this report. Four broad topic areas were considered: (1) osteogenesis imperfecta and related disorders; (2) Marfan syndrome and related elastic fiber disorders; (3)chondrodysplasias; and (4) inherited skin disorders. In each topic area, presentations and discussions addressed current knowledge and future research directions.",
