Abstract
The eye-of-the-tiger sign describes the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) changes seen in pantothenate kinase-associated neurodegeneration (PKAN) on T2-weighted study. The specific changes are hypointense signal in globus pallidus with a region of central or anteromedial hyperintensity. This sign is virtually pathognomic for PKAN. The hypointense region represents high tissue iron and the hyperintense region edema.
