Abstract
Uveitis is a broad term that is used to describe many distinct clinical syndromes. From the perspective of determining genetic risk factors for uveitis, having well-defined clinical phenotypes is critical. Uveitis is typically classified on the basis of location, onset, symmetry, and relationship to associated systemic diseases. Clinical classifications of uveitis have been approached systematically with efforts made to standardize the relevant nomenclature. The ability to describe uveitis with universal assessment parameters is fundamental in defining phenotypic subsets useful for genetic studies.
