Abstract

Neonatal jaundice is a common pediatric problem with approximately 50% of term and up to 80% of preterm infants developing jaundice in the first week of life. Most instances of neonatal jaundice are benign and few infants have significant underlying disease. The challenge for clinicians is to determine when further evaluation is needed.
