Abstract

The Opioid Crisis penetrated every community in the United States and elevated the importance of substance use disorder from the moral failings of fringe society to prevalent neuropsychiatric disorders that touches every aspect of our lives. The DSMV made substantial changes to the diagnostic criteria for substance use disorders and moved gambling disorder as the only one behavioral disorder in a category defined by the substance of interest. The research interest in the substance use disorder field has widened substantially over the years. Through analysis of the demographics of substance use disorder that is available nationally, race, gender, age, community, and geographical location are all necessary parameters to include in any study that would present meaningful data.
