Abstract
A bursa is a synovial pouch that reduces friction between adjacent tissues. More than 150 bursae have been identified in the human body. Of these, the olecranon and prepatellar bursae are particularly predisposed to infection and inflammation. In this article, we briefly review the anatomy of the olecranon and prepatellar bursae and discuss the clinical features and treatment of both septic and nonseptic bursitis.
