Abstract
Advances in technology have driven an evolution in the surgical management of parathyroid disease so that less invasive, more targeted approaches are now possible in the majority of patients. An adherence to the basic principles of parathyroid exploration and an understanding of the indications and contraindications for the different kinds of operations are still fundamental to the success of the operation.
