Abstract
Despite hernia repairs being some of the most frequent surgical procedures performed by general surgeons, this process can be a challenging endeavor, as many patients commonly present with not only complex and recurrent hernias but also comorbidities that increase the risk of peri- and postoperative complications. Preoperative optimization of patient comorbidities and standardizing postoperative care by enhanced recovery pathways allow for a systematic approach aimed to accelerate the recovery process and reduce postoperative complications.
