N2 - Postmortem pulmonary lymphangiography was performed on a lung taken from a patient with extensive lymphangitic metastasis of a primary carcinoma of the urinary bladder. Abnormal, retrograde flow occurred into deep lymphatic branches. Valves in the deep lymphatics had become incompetent. The retrograde flow in lymphatics of lungs with lymphangitic carcinomatosis has not previously been described, to our knowledge. It may explain the presence of collateral lymph flow around obstructed pathways and probably facilitates generalized spread of tumor cells within the pulmonary lymphatics. Cancer 33:1558–1563, 1974.
