Abstract

Canine hearts were perfused for 24 hrs by hypothermic perfusion. When these hearts were resuscitated they demonstrated pressure-volume curves that were similar to their own control. Electron micrographic studies showed good morphological preservation. However, physiological preservation was not attained, as the orthotopic homotransplanted, preserved heart failed soon after orthotopic implantation.
