N2 - In a study using Fe0 as the bulk reductant, subtle effects of natural organic matter (NOM) were found on reduction of nitrobenzene, CCl4, and trichloroethylene. Batch experiments were prepared by placing Fisher electrolytic iron in 60-mL amber serum bottles, adding 50 mL deoxygenated deionized water, sealing with a septum, and immediately adding NOM and RDX stock solutions by injection through the septum. With the addition of NOM, the rate of RDX degradation increases significantly. This is an abstract of a paper presented at the 231st ACS National Meeting (Atlanta, GA 3/26-30/2006).
