Abstract

Morbid obesity is highly prevalent, and bariatric surgery provides significant, long-term weight loss with improvement of medical comorbidities. Roux-en-Y gastric bypass and sleeve gastrectomy are the two most commonly performed bariatric operations today. This chapter describes the anatomic landmarks to observe during both operations. A comprehensive understanding of anatomy helps achieve optimal operative results and avoid postoperative complications.
