Abstract
Sulfonamides have been one of the most widely used class of antibiotics for over 6 decades. Despite their widespread use, immunologic hypersensitivity or allergic responses have been unusual. With the advent of AIDS, the incidence of clinical hypersensitivity responses has dramatically increased. In this article, the mechanisms of hypersensitivity, as well as desensitization, protocols are described.
