Abstract

2H NMR lineshapes for the deuterium molybdenum bronze H1.66MoO3 were measured over the temperature range 20-410 K using the quadrupolar echo technique. The low temperature lineshape demonstrates the existence of two equally populated deuterium sites in the lattice. At 200 K, a motionally narrowed, completely asymmetric pattern is observed. The width is substantially less than that expected for simple flips of OH2 moieties or quasi one-dimensional motion.
