Abstract
Over the last 50 years, medical education has seen an increase in time devoted to didactic teaching and a significant decline in the amount of time devoted to laboratory teaching and learning. The reasons for this are multifaceted, and the end result is not only unfortunate but ignores sound educational and learning theory. However, recently health science schools are increasingly searching for ways to incorporate active learning strategies in their curricula. This chapter addresses that need and will help incorporate laboratory exercises into your teaching repertoire.
