Abstract
The effect of 1.1.1 trichloro 2,2 bis(p chlorophenyl)ethane (DDT), gamma hexachlorocyclohexane (lindane) and a mixture of polychlorinated biphenyls (Aroclor 1254) on brain cell culture was investigated. Among the three polychlorinated hydrocarbons the most toxic was found to be DDT and the least toxic Aroclor 1254. Generally, administration of these compounds caused destruction of the cell processes with vacuolization and swelling of the cell body.
