Abstract

A preliminary study has been performed to investigate the potential of infrared thermography in biomechanical applications of experimental stress analysis. The stress patterns of six mongrel adult dog femurs were evaluated by the SPATE method (Stress Pattern Analysis by Thermal Emission) developed by Ometron, Inc. An infrared radiographic scan was used to measure temperature changes caused by elastic deformation of a specimen during cyclic loading.
