Abstract
Chemical sensor networks are critical for the measurement of pH, dissolved gases including O2 and CO2, nutrients and other chemical parameters. This review focuses on in situ chemical sensors and analyzers and chemical sensor networks. For the sensors and analyzers, emphasis is on dissolved gases other than CO2, inorganic carbon system, nutrients and empirical sensors. For chemical sensor networks, discussion covers MBARI/NOAA pCO2 array, trans-Pacific sections of dissolved O2 measured on Argo profiling floats, the RiverNet system and land/ocean biogeochemical observatory.
