Abstract

Asthma is a chronic inflammatory disease of the airways, recognized to affect millions of children and young adults in the United States. However, it is also a disease that is often underdiagnosed and underemphasized in the elderly population, in which many unique considerations become significant. The prevalence of asthma in persons over 65 has been reported to range from 6.5% to 40%.
