Abstract

Pathology is the branch of medicine that encompasses the structure and functional changes in disease processes. This includes anatomic and morphologic alterations as well as biochemical disorders, genetic abnormalities, and immunologic dysfunctions. In this chapter, some of the fundamental pathologic processes such as tissue responses to injury, inflammation, and neoplasia are discussed. Techniques in anatomic pathology, immunopathology, cytogenetics, and molecular pathology are explained.
