Abstract
Knowledge of anatomy is the cornerstone of surgery. This chapter focuses on the anatomical and surgical considerations for readers considering surgery of vascular tumors. While the blood supply of the head and neck is rich and provides a great zone for flaps, they add complexity to tumors of vascular origin. Discussed in this chapter are vascular anatomy of major vessels, the facial nerve and its significance, ligation of arteries, approaches to the face. This chapter provides thematic sections with the aim to give you anatomical reference guides to head and neck anatomy, its vascular detail and anatomical considerations for surgical approaches. We aim to provide a ready reckoner of anatomy and the normal literature quoted reference guide to the arterial inner luminal and outer diameters of the head and neck. The reference details we hope provides a guide in identification of nidus, especially in the high-flow vascular lesions and the review of anatomical ranges of other lesions.
