N1 - Funding Information: Subsequently, Dr Tabin returned to the United States and took a position as the Cornea Fellowship Director at the University of Utah Moran Eye Center. Dr Tabin noted that some of his cornea fellows had a similar interest in pursuing a GO career. To meet this demand, Dr Tabin developed a co-curriculum for academic global ophthalmology attached to the pre-existing cornea fellowship. Soon after, the Moran International Fellowship, the first formal GO fellowship, was created. This became the first established program to provide the US ophthalmologists with the opportunity to serve as part-time faculty at Moran Eye Center and spend 6 to 8 months in various resource-constrained settings around the world. The opportunity to spend time in other regions of the world supports the overarching goal of GO fellowships, which is to provide the participants (both the fellow and partner organizations) with an extended global network of partners who will aid in realizing sustainable eye care initiatives while providing in-the-field experience and teaching proficiency in navigating disparate health care systems.
