Abstract

The abdominal wall is a highly organized amalgam of varying planes of myofascial tissue that intersect and overlap at specific anatomic locations. CT imaging of the abdominal wall can readily be assessed for preoperative planning for a variety of hernia repairs. Reviewing the abdominal wall region by region can help simplify the evaluation, with care taken to consider the relationships of the various myofascial planes with each other, as there is overlap between the different regions. Having in-depth familiarity of abdominal wall anatomy, and applying that knowledge to CT imaging greatly assists in procedural decision-making and outcomes for hernia repair and abdominal wall reconstruction.
