This month the Archives of Ophthalmology joins with JAMA in focusing on tuberculosis for their theme issue. Tuberculosis remains the world's leading infectious cause of death and can also cause a variety of diseases throughout the body and the eye. Worldwide there are approximately 8 million new cases and 3 million deaths from tuberculosis each year. Approximately one third of the world's population has been infected. The demographics of infection vary widely, with developing countries bearing the heaviest burden of disease.
