Abstract

Penile carcinoma is a life-threatening condition with potential for severe psychological and functional impact. Erectile dysfunction occurs as a result of malignant infiltration of the penile tissue or as consequence of surgical treatment. Radical surgery can be an effective treatment modality, but this can be considered mutilating with a high incidence of aesthetic, functional and psychological morbidity. Therefore, goals of the surgical treatment of penile cancer should be both eradication of the disease and a sparing of functional penile tissue. Penile-sparing procedures have been increasingly performed and reported in recent decades. Additionally, total phallic reconstruction gives new perspectives to the patients who were not suitable for organ-sparing procedures. The main objective of this chapter is to highlight the treatment of penile cancer with the possibilities for preservation of erectile and sexual function.
