Pitfalls in developmental diagnosis

For a number of reasons, including the way in which physicians and parents are inclined to think about aspects of growth and development in infancy and early childhood, inherent biases against the early diagnosis of specific developmental disabilities exist. These biases represent traps into which caretakers and pediatric practitioners are prone to fall. Some of the more common pitfalls are presented along with strategies for avoiding them.
