Abstract

Conventional hematopoietic stem cell transplant (HSCT) is a vigorous procedure with significant risk for non-infectious and infectious complications. Reduced-intensity HSCT is often offered to recipients with advanced age and/or significant comorbid clinical conditions. Appropriate identification of recipients who will likely have a chance for benefiting from these rigorous procedures is essential. Screening of donors is necessary to identify all potential risks of harm to the donor and to identify potential transmissible illnesses to the recipient.
