Proposal for multi-center database to facilitate cranial base research with statistical significance

Abstract

As established cranial base programs develop throughout North America, the statistically small numbers of patients being treated at individual centers are limiting the production of useful clinical analyses. The low incidence and prevalence of most cranial base neoplasms within the general population does not provide any one center a reasonable number of patients for useful statistically based scientific conclusions. A user friendly, multi-center, web accessible database is proposed to assist with tracking of neoplasm epidemiology, patient demographics, treatment approaches, treatment outcomes and quality of life measures. Participation in this database project will provide individual cranial base programs with raw data collected through standardized and validated methods for individual research endeavors.
