Abstract
The prostaglandin production by leucocytes adherent to 46 intrauterine devices removed at various stages of the menstrual cycle was studied. The number of adherent leucocytes was greatest at the beginning of the cycle. The production of prostaglandin E2 and F2α by these leucocytes after removal at various stages of the cycle followed a pattern which is similar to that of the prostaglandin content of endometrium. The significance of these findings is discussed.
