Abstract
Radionuclide therapies are currently expanding rapidly due to a variety of factors, including novel targets, their proven efficacy and safety, and the concept of theranostics. This chapter reviews the principal radionuclide therapies with regards to their clinical applications, correlative functional imaging, pre- and post-therapeutic considerations, their efficacy, and safety. Neuroendocrine neoplasms are known to abundantly express somatostatin receptors, which have a role in modulating the proliferation and secretory activity of the tumor cells. The chapter also reviews the current status and future directions of prostate-specific membrane antigen-based theranostics in prostate cancer. Pain resulting from osseous metastases is frequently debilitating and a major source of morbidity in patients with various malignancies. Radionuclide therapy has the advantage of lower incidence of adverse effects, ease of therapy administration, prolonged pain relief, and the ability to target all sites of osseous metastases.
