Abstract

Fungal keratitis is a leading cause of ocular morbidity worldwide. Globally, there has been a steady increase in the prevalence of fungal keratitis, yet the management of disease continues to be a challenge. This review will focus on the epidemiology of fungal keratitis on a global scale, as well as a review of the literature on the risk factors associated with the increasing trend of infection including ocular trauma, climate, contact lens use, ocular surgery, ocular surface disease, and systemic diseases. This review will also briefly cover the clinical presentation, diagnosis, and treatment of fungal infections.
