Abstract
This is the first report of the ultramicroscopy of spheroid degeneration of the cornea and conjunctiva, and the pathologic findings of the conjunctival form. Regardless of type, each spherule was made up of finely granular material. The mechanism of the development of the spheroids appears to be that smaller spherules are a condensation of granular material secreted by abnormal fibrocytic cells of the cornea or conjunctiva and deposited on collagen fibrils. Multiple small spherules combined to form the large spheroids observed biomicroscopically.
