Abstract

Vascular anomalies are a source of Cosmetic and not too often a functional disturbance in the head and neck region. Hemangiomas do undergo involution but would require further intervention if they leave residual blemishes or unsightly excesses of soft tissue on the face. Similarly, Vascular malformations that fail to respond to interventional therapy may need surgical management. Surgery for vascular lesions is challenged by the very nature of its pathology. Increased vascularity and hence haemorrhage control followed by successful excision or decompression is the key. This chapter describes a surgeon-friendly classification followed by a systematic approach to surgical ablation. Attempt to describe surgical approaches and techniques in all possible anatomic areas of the head and neck are addressed through different case scenarios.
