Abstract

Beginning investigators in the field of auditory perception receive essentially no instruction in how to go about constructing new and useful theories. This article considers some of the characteristics of good theory in this field and is intended to serve as a call for further discussion of the processes by which such theory is created and for the development of appropriate theory-construction teaching materials.
