Abstract

Accidental and intentional injuries account for more years of life lost in the U. S. than cancer and heart disease. Among the prescribed remedies are improved preventive efforts, speedier surgery and further research. In this article, causes of trauma deaths in the U. S. are explored. Care for trauma victims is discussed. Controversial social issues, such as decriminalization of narcotic drugs, which are seen to be a cause of trauma deaths, are presented.
